Construction was of a rather poor quality white surfaced corrugated cardboard which was folded inwards to form the separate base tray; what is surprising is the fact that the cardboard used in the smaller Presentation Set packaging was of a much better quality, being considerably heavier and much stronger.
There was no box lid but a cardboard sleeve into which the base tray was slid to protect the contents. The hand-drawn box artwork was printed all in red and featured the Transcontinental 4-6-2 Locomotive and Tender No.2335 in full steam pulling a train of seven freight cars. To say the least, the artwork was primitive; one fellow collector recently described it as being 'as rough as old bags'. Certainly, it was uninspiring and failed to complement the quality of the models. The side of the base tray carried the address: 'LINES BROS. (CANADA) LTD. WATERLOO QUE.' |

Box Inner Tray Inserts
The box inner trays were manufactured as separate inserts to the box base trays. They were die-cut to accommodate each individual boxed item.
The Transformer was supplied without an individual box but was secured in place by a fabric double-sided adhesive pad. The 'Tri-ang Railways' logo was printed in red as were the slogans 'More Play-Value in Less Space' and 'REALISTIC SUPER-4 TRACK'. Two short sections of straight track and 'OO/HO SCALE' were printed in black. On final packaging, the base trays were shrink-wrapped for safety, with the sleeve being left removable, so that the contents could be easily viewed or displayed in retail outlets. Type 1 Inner Tray Insert >Type 1 Inner Tray Inserts have the 2nd row of models 'angled' symmetrically. Type 2 Inner Tray Inserts have the 2nd row of models in a straight line. Type 2 Inner Tray Insert >Some, but not all, of the sets can be found with two different box inner tray insert 'layouts' for housing the individual model boxes.
Of the sets so far documented, only Sets CTS.1, CTS.2 and CTS.654 are known to have been issued with the Type 1 Inner Tray Insert. All the other 1965 Sets, with the exception of Set CTS.2, are known to have been issued with Type 2 Inner Tray Inserts. |

As new discoveries come to light, it is possible that this listing may have to be revised.
The R.167 Track PackThe R.167 Track Pack was not available as a separate item. It contained an oval of Super 4 track, uncoupling ramp and power connecting clip contained in a specially printed illustrated box.
