R.139 Tri-ang Railways Transcontinental Pickle Cars
- available in Canada 1959 - 1969
On its introduction in 1959 the R.139 Pickle Car was available in a choice of two distinct colour schemes from the start.
The second version with the red headboards on the sides and the white pickle tanks (pictured below) is definitely the more numerous of these two models; suggesting that only one batch of the model with the yellow pickle tanks was made and quietly discontinued as stocks were exhausted.
This version of the R.139 Pickle Car continued to be available in Canada until it was replaced by the 'Heinz Pickles' model in the 1970 Tri-ang Railways Canadian Catalogue.

... and, 'Yes' I have seen several examples of this version of the Pickle Car; the pickle tanks really do have '57' printed on both sides.
