R.55 'Transcontinental' Diesel 'A' Unit - red and silver-grey - 4008
with Noise / Diesel Sound
Issued 1963-1964 - available in Canada
Manufactured at Margate in the UK. Physically, from the outside, the model is identical to the standard 'Transcontinental' version of the locomotive with the red cab. The model was first listed in the Canadian March 1st, 1963 Retail Order Price List as 'R.55 Diesel w/Noise (Silver & Red)' and priced at $13.95. The following year, no versions of the R.55 Diesel were listed for sale by the time the Canadian March 1st, 1964 Retail Order Price List was published.
There was also a 'TransAustralia' version of the locomotive with 'Diesel Sound' manufactured by Moldex in Australia which had minor differences to the wiring and the motor was fitted with a small silver cog rather than a red painted worm gear.
