TRI-ANG MINIX CARS
Buses, Caravans, Trailers and Sets
The original series - an introduction
Minix model cars were manufactured by Rovex Ltd. of Margate, United Kingdom, a member of the world famous Lines Bros. group of companies. They were first introduced in 1964 to complement the Tri-ang Railways system and the Model-Land range of buildings. Having launched the range largely as wagon loads and scenic extras, Rovex Ltd. then realised that it had a viable toy range which could stand alone in its own right.
The cars were marketed as 'THE GREATEST LITTLE CARS IN THE WORLD'; maybe a slight exaggeration but, unlike many other road vehicles manufactured in Britain at that time, they were constant in scale (with one later exception).
The scale was 1:76 (OO scale or 4mm to one foot), the exception being the coach/bus which was approximately 1:135 scale. The price was also competitive; the first models came off the production line towards the end of 1964 and retailed at 1/- (one shilling or 5 new pence in decimal money). The bus retailed at 1/6d (one shilling and sixpence or 7.5 new pence). Only the RC.1 Ford Anglia, RC.2 Morris 1100, RC.3 Vauxhall Viva and RC.5 Austin A60 were made that year.
