January 1st, 1958 Tri-ang Railways OO/HO Export Trade Price List
The train set boxes included a speed control unit. However, the mains transformer-rectifier unit was supplied and packaged as a separate item.
The 1958 Canadian Illustrated Price Lists advertised a price for some sets with and without a power supply unit. Comparing the prices quoted, there was no saving in purchasing both items together! |
1958 RUX “Dockside Special” SetThe issued set was composed of the R.253 Black Dock Shunter, R.116 Gondola Car, R.114 Box Car, R.115 Caboose, RT.42 Speed Control Unit and oval of Standard Track (R.97 Power Connecting and Uncoupling Track, R.107 TelevisionInterference Suppressor Track and 12x R.93 Small Radius Curve).
The stock had Type 2 (open) couplings and the Dock Shunter was supplied without buffers which was, at the time, a unique feature of this set. Retail price for the set (without the P.1.C. Transformer) was $17.00 Canadian. The RUX Set was intended very much as an entry level ‘starter set’ for newcomers to the Tri-ang Railways system. |
In addition to the RUX Set, the RNX Diesel Switcher Freight Set, the RJX 4-6-2 “Pacific” Freight Set, the RLX Twin Diesel Freight Set and the RHX Twin Diesel Passenger Set were also offered ‘Complete with P.1.C. Transformer’ in the August 1st, 1958 Illustrated Retail Price List for Canada.
These sets were also listed without the transformer included as well as the RKX 4-6-4 Tank Freight Set, the RVX Twin Double Ended Diesel Passenger Set and, rather strangely, the RFX Two Car Electric Commuter Set, which included the B.R. Southern Region 2-car EMU.
All the listed sets contained Standard Track which may seem surprising since 1958 had seen the introduction of the new Series 3 Track in the UK and all current sets in the UK catalogue were available for general export. But, clearly, many Standard Track sets had remained in stock and were in need of disposal; Canada being the outlet!
