Canadian Tri-ang Railways - The 1969 Standard Sets
TS.901 Cross Canada Diesel Freight SetThe set was composed of the R.55CN Diesel Locomotive, R.111CN Hopper Car, dark red and deep yellow R.136CN Box Car and R.115CN Caboose, Model 2200 Transformer and R.167A Track Pack.
The CN Caboose is now the revised version with maroon body and pale grey roof. The track pack in this set contained a small oval of track with just the two straight tracks as opposed to the normal four. Click on any picture on this page to view a larger image |
As can be seen from the Track Layout for Set TS.901 only a 'short oval' of Super 4 Track was included and a new track pack was created for this purpose.
The R.167A Track Pack contains R.483 1st Radius Double Curve x8, R.481 Straight x2, R.487 Power Connecting Clip, R.488 Uncoupling Ramp and S.5083 Power Leads. |
TS.902 Canadian Pacific Diesel Freight SetThe set was composed of the R.155CP Canadian Pacific Diesel Switcher, R.137 'Wabash' Cement Car, R.235CP Canadian Pacific Pulp-wood Car, R.136CP Canadian Pacific Railway Box Car and R.115CP Canadian Pacific Caboose, Model 2200 Transformer and R.167 Track Pack.
Some later versions of the set have been found with the black Model 1000 Transformer, as pictured here. |
TS.903 Steam Freight SetThis set is based on the TS.673 Pacific Steam Freight Set from 1968 but it is now a Canadian Pacific influenced set rather than Canadian National.
The set utilises the exact same pre-formed inner tray (note the cut-out above the C&O Railways Refrigerator Car which was originally for the Giraffe Car). The Illustrated set in the 1969 Canadian Catalogue included the R.117 Shell Oil Tank Car rather than the BP version. However, it would seem that the Shell Oil Tank Car is much less commonly found in this set. The pictured set is composed of the R.54SCP Canadian Pacific Steam Locomotive with Smoke and Tender, R.126CP Canadian Pacific Stock Car, R.129 C&O Railways Refrigerator Car, R.342CN Car Transporter, R.117 BP Oil Tank Car and R.115CP Canadian Pacific Caboose, Model 2200 Transformer and R.167 Track Pack.
This additional picture has been included to illustrate this difference in positioning of the cabside number on the Canadian Pacific Locomotive which is significantly further forward in relation to the cabside window.

The coaches were the models with dark silvery-grey moulded plastic bodies with black painted window stripe and heat printed 'CN' logo in silver. Later issues of the set contained the brighter silver painted versions of the coaches which, supposedly, were not available until 1970. |
TS.905 Canadian National Diesel Freight SetThe set was composed of the R.55CN Diesel Locomotive, R.129 C&O Railways Refrigerator Car, R.663CN 60ft Flat Car with three 20ft Canadian National Containers, R.342CN Car Transporter and R.115CN Caboose, Model 2200 Transformer and R.167 Track Pack.

Although described as a Flat Car in the catalogue this was really the Low-sided Wagon. Also, the Mineral Car is more normally known as the High-sided Wagon.
